Folate receptor ? (FR?) is overexpressed on numerous tumorous cell types such as ovarian or endometrial cancer cells. Moreover, FR? absent from most healthy tissues it normally expressed only the surface of proximal tubules cells kidneys and choroid plexus. Thus, folate-based radiopharmaceuticals have emerged this last two decades a target choice to diagnose treat cancers. Nuclear imaging performing diagnostic technology using highly sensitive detectors specific used detect tumors at an earlier stage. Herein, overview development FR?-positive by nuclear positron emission tomography (PET) single photon computed (SPECT) exposed. Strategies developed improve precursor synthesis, bioavailability, clearance, affinity will be detailed. Advances made decrease kidney uptake open gate targeted radionuclide therapy (TRT) tumors. radiofolates in TRT more precisely theranostic approach depicted review.
